* The Maltz Museum is again holding it’s Stop the Hate essay contest. Please consider entering — it’s a fantastic program! I have copies of recent winners for anyone who’s interested in seeing them. This is a local contest (in other words, you have fewer competitors than you would in a national contest), and the top prize is a $100,ooo scholarship. Yes, you read that right — $100,000. There are also prizes at all grade levels from 6-12. http://www.maltzmuseum.org/stop-the-hate/contest/
* Do you like to write poems that LOOK like what they are ABOUT? The technical term for this is ekphrasis, and if you’re good at it you might be interested in entering the annual CWRU Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities Poetry Contest in cooperation with the Cleveland Museum of Art. The due date is October 12, 2011 by 5:00 PM, and winners are expected to attend and read their poems at ‘Poetry in the Museum’ on Sunday, October 30th. Please see me or CLICK HERE for more information.
* GENERATIONEXT – This is Cuyahoga County’s annual creative writing contest. We’ve had students win it before — so if you have poems, songs, or short stories to submit, please do so! I’d be happy to help you decide what to submit if you have ample work to choose from. The deadline each year is around Valentine’s Day. You can win up to $100.
* In addition to always accepting submissions for its various publications, Teen Ink also does a wide range of themed contests — fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, photography, humor, environmentalism, etc. Click here for a list with links to more information.
Please check back often! This information will be updated frequently throughout the academic year.
* CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah & Megan for their success with the 2008 Generation Next Creative Writing Contest! Keep checking the Cuyahoga County Library’s Teen Space page for info about the 2009 contest.
